Visiting Whitmore Mansion

Visiting Whitmore Mansion in Nephi will give you a unique experience. Built in 1898, this mansion has a rich history. It was once a hotel, family home, and hospital. It was threatened with demolition in 1962, but was saved and renovated in 1978. Today, the homeowners hope to preserve the history of the building and the history of the people who lived there.

While touring the mansion, do not miss the Veteran’s Memorial and Rose Garden. Located at the corner of 100 North and 100 East Streets, this maze-like garden is a tribute to the fallen soldiers of Nephi. The memorial contains names of the fallen soldiers, and is a great place to visit in the springtime.

The house was not completed until Whitmore died, but you may be able to hear the sounds of construction while visiting. The mansion’s mysterious doors aren’t the only oddities at Whitmore. One door on the master bedroom’s deck disappears after the first two steps. A person who falls from the deck would fall two feet below. Another door leads into a sunroom but doesn’t have a door handle.
